What is I-Explore?
With I-Explore, you have the chance to broaden your knowledge and tackle a subject area that is outside of your core discipline.
You’ll gain new context to what you’ve learned during your studies and be able to share your expertise for the benefit of society.
As an undergraduate student, you’ll choose one I-Explore module, which you will earn credit for as part of your degree.
Follow your interests and pursue your passion with our range of options, which we have divided into four categories:
- Imperial Horizons: Choose from a range of modules in the humanities, social sciences, languages, culture, society and global challenges.
- Business for Professional Engineers and Scientists: Understand the financial, strategic and operational context of your core discipline.
- STEMM: Study areas from beyond your chosen discipline in Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine.
- Multidisciplinary Project: Collaborate with students from other departments to tackle some of big challenges to develop and pitch your product or idea.
How does it work?
You’ll take your I-Explore module in either your second or third year, depending on your department. You’ll select your preferences in the academic year before you take the module.
You choose six modules you’re interested, giving your preferred options. We use an algorithm to try and give all students one of their highly preferred modules.
Is I-Explore open for undergraduate students?
Nearly all undergraduate students have the opportunity to study I-Explore modules.
However, I-Explore is not available to students studying the following degrees:
- Chemical Engineering students on MEng Chemical with Nuclear Engineering.
- Chemical Engineering, Earth Science Engineering, and Computing students abroad in year 3 (consult your Director of Undergraduate Studies to select a similar module at your year abroad institution).
